Mouth Ulcers
In the US more than 40 million people suffer from
Mouth Ulcers annually. All over the world millions and
millions suffer from this painful irritating sores.
The painful sores in the lining of the mouth are also
called apthaus ulcers or canker sores. They usually do
not last more than two weeks. Sometimes it is just one
sore and other times there area a few. This problem
may recur several times a year. The cause of Mouth
Ulcer is not known. Anyone suffering from Mouth Ulcers
usually desperately seeks quick treatment because it
makes having your meals a painful experience. The
recurrent form is called recurrent
Apthous Stomatitis or simply Apthaus Ulcers
Gingivitis
Gingivitis is the
inflammation of the gums or gingiva.
Gingivitis is caused
by plaque deposits. Plaque and tartar irritate and
inflame the gingiva. Bacteria and the
toxins produced by
them, cause the gums to become swollen.
Gingivitis can affect
anybody.
Glossitis
Glossitis
is the inflammation of the tongue. It causes the
tongue to swell and change color. Finger-like
projections on the surface of the tongue (papillae)
are lost, causing the tongue to appear smooth. The
causes could be due to bacteria or viral infections;
burns; exposure to irritants such as tobacco, alcohol,
hot foods or spices; allergic reaction to certain
consumer products or medications or genetic disorder.
A sufferer may find the tongue sore and tender and
have difficulty in chewing, swallowing, or speaking.
Corticosteroids such as prednisone is used to reduce
the inflammation. The can have side effects.
Antibiotics, antifungal medications, or other
antimicrobials may be prescribed if the cause of
glossitis is an infection. Of cause all these drugs
have their degree of side effects. |
